Edward Defends Casimir’s Record at Gros Islet Labour Party AGM

S

econd Deputy Political Leader of the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) and Parliamentary Representative for Dennery North, Hon. Shawn Edward, has publicly defended the performance and representation of Gros Islet MP, Hon. Kenson Casimir, describing him as “a hardworking young man who represents Gros Islet with admiration, pride, and dignity.”

Edward delivered the feature address at the Gros Islet SLP Constituency Group’s Annual General Meeting, where he expressed solidarity with Casimir amid what he described as “nasty and vile attacks” from opposition forces.

“I am here in solidarity with a man whom I consider my friend,” Edward said, recalling his first encounter with Casimir years ago during a youth football tournament in Barbados. He shared a lighthearted story about Casimir’s energy and charisma even as a teenager, saying those traits have remained evident throughout his public life.

The Dennery North MP, looking to secure a court victory at the polls, praised Casimir’s rise from humble beginnings to a leadership role in national politics, noting that he is “the son of a vendor” who has earned his place in Parliament through dedication and service.

“In a place where you have scores of lawyers, doctors, and engineers, Kenson has risen from humble beginnings to give quality representation to the people of Gros Islet.. I am extremely proud of your Parliamentary Representative.”

He also commended Casimir for his work in one of Saint Lucia’s most diverse constituencies, which he said encompasses both “the poorest of the poor” and “the richest of the rich.”

Turning his attention to the opposition, Edward slammed the United Workers Party (UWP) of resorting to personal attacks instead of constructive debate. “After four years in opposition, they cannot find one policy initiative of the Labour Party to challenge,” he said. “The easiest thing to do is to attack a hardworking young man who continues to deliver for his constituency.”

Edward expressed confidence that Casimir will retain his seat whenever the next general elections are called. “When the votes are counted, I am proclaiming boldly tonight that Kenson Casimir will not be moved in Gros Islet,” he declared, predicting Casimir’s “second consecutive victory.”

He urged Labour Party supporters in Gros Islet to rally behind their MP and the party’s leadership. “You have a champion parliamentary representative. You have a hardworking representative,” he said. “When it comes to performance in government, the Saint Lucia Labour Party is the superior party, because we put people first.”
