Missing Evidence in Murder Cases Sparks Calls for Independent Police Probe

S

ocial justice advocate Allison Jean is calling for a full and independent investigation into the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) following revelations that critical evidence has disappeared from two high-profile murder cases.

Jean says she is bewildered and outraged by the development, which affects ongoing cases connected to the murders of Chakradan Daniel, Kimberly De Leon, and Arnold Joseph.

For so long we have been crying out for justice… and to hear that there’s been tampering of evidence, especially two major pieces of evidence, the gun as well as the noose, to find that they are missing… that really points to insider interest,” she said.

The activist stressed that any investigation into the matter must be independent of the police. Drawing comparisons with best practices in other jurisdictions, Jean highlighted the importance of removing such probes from police control altogether.

“In some cases, it’s investigated by an internal affairs unit of the district attorney’s office… completely out of the hands of police immediately. The crime scene, all instructions, everything… was dealt with by people within that unit who are not police officers,” she explained.

I think that lends itself to a more objective investigation, if I may say.”

Jean’s comments come amid growing public concern over accountability and transparency within the RSLPF, especially in cases where police actions or negligence may have compromised justice.
