fficials say Saint Lucia is leading a major transformation in primary education across the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) with the rollout of a groundbreaking regional curriculum.

The new approach is designed to bridge modern academic standards with Caribbean cultural identity and life skills, preparing students for the realities of an evolving world.

The initiative, known as the Development of Harmonised Primary Curriculum (DOHPC), is the result of a collaborative, regional effort involving educators, curriculum experts, and education stakeholders from across the OECS.

Curriculum Support Officer Selma Biscette highlighted the significance of the change during a recent training session for educators.

Our theme for this training is ‘From Paper to Practice,’ and it captures the essence of where we are today. We are transitioning from years of careful curriculum development.”

According to Biscette, the new curriculum embodies the spirit of regional unity and shared vision.

She noted: “The development of the DOHPC was a regional and collaborative effort. This curriculum is a tangible example of regional integration in action and the benefits that it can have for our people.”

Education officials across the island and the OECS have emphasised that the curriculum goes beyond traditional academics and integrates practical competencies, promotes critical thinking, and reinforces a strong sense of Caribbean identity and citizenship from the earliest stages of learning.
