orty-four high-performing students from financially disadvantaged households will begin their secondary school journey this September with full scholarships, thanks to the National Community Foundation (NCF).

The initiative, which supports students who recently completed the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA), represents a significant investment in both education and equity.

The scholarships, funded through the NCF’s education support programme, provide comprehensive coverage of school-related expenses, including tuition, uniforms, transportation, meals, books, and exam fees, removing major barriers to access and continuity for the selected students.

Executive Director of the NCF, Vanya Reid-Hinkson, described the initiative as a long-term commitment to each student’s success.

This scholarship is a commitment to support for five years, the complete form one to form five journey. And so we’re going to be with these students for the long term. We’re hoping, as we can increase funding, we can also increase the numbers,” she explained.

Chair of the NCF, Agatha Jn. Panel, also underscored the importance of seizing this opportunity. Addressing the scholarship recipients, she encouraged them to take their education seriously.

What I want the children to do is to realise that this is the beginning of a second phase of their educational life. And I don’t want them to take it lightly,” she said.

This year’s awardees were selected based on a combination of academic performance and financial need.
