The appointment, effective 2 April 2025, not only marks a major milestone in her legal career but also cements her place in Saint Lucian legal history as the youngest woman to be elevated to the rank.
Reflecting on her journey, St. Rose recalled the moment she first expressed her interest in the law at the age of 12.
“I told my dad that I wanted to be a lawyer. He told me there are too many lawyers and it would be hard to stand out.” But the early doubts didn’t deter her. By the time she was 15 and selecting her CXC subjects, she had already committed to the path. Her father, she recalled, had changed his tune by then. “He told me it was a good choice. It is a profession that would make me independent, especially as a woman, and allow me to chart my path,” she explained.
That path, as she tells it, truly began on 1 December 2003 when she joined Peter I. Foster and Associates, now known as FOSTERS. The transition was transformative. “Many have heard this story before, but as I reflect on this achievement, I can truly say that it was the moment my career as a lawyer truly changed,” she said.
She vividly recalled her first day at the firm: “Peter met with me and handed me a copy of an application to discharge a without-notice injunction filed by Caribbean law officers. He asked me to review it and prepare submissions.”
That day, she said, she worked late into the evening with only a small packet of Ritz crackers to keep her going. But it also gave her one of the most important lessons of her career.
“Peter shared with me what remains the most memorable lesson of my career: we get out of this practice what we put into it. We must always represent our clients without fear or favour.”
Attorney General Hon. Leslie Mondesir praised St. Rose’s career and work ethic, describing her as a legal professional of “continuous hard work, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence.”
He highlighted her consistent dedication, even outside traditional working hours.
“If you happen to pass by the chambers of FOSTERS on a Saturday morning any given Saturday morning you would religiously notice her vehicle parked right there at work,” he said.
Mondesir further noted her reliability and commitment to the legal fraternity.
