T

he Cultural Development Foundation’s (CDF) much-anticipated Youth Summer Arts Platform (YSAP) is back, offering young, aspiring artists a unique opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity.

As CDF’s flagship youth engagement initiative, YSAP is designed to nurture Saint Lucia's cultural legacy through education and inclusion, providing an immersive, fun-filled summer experience for youth aged 7 to 17.

This year, the Youth Summer Arts Platform will be held in both the Northern and Southern districts, allowing for greater community engagement. The program offers a structured curriculum where participants will engage in various art forms that foster creativity, enhance learning, and celebrate Saint Lucia's rich cultural heritage. This annual initiative not only introduces youth to the arts but also provides a historical perspective, enabling them to deepen their connection with local traditions and values.

The Youth Summer Arts Platform (YSAP) primarily focuses on creating an avenue for young people to express themselves in a safe space. Our goal is also to expose them to careers within the creative and cultural industries that they may be interested in. They gain insight into how it works, the various components, and we aim to create an atmosphere of fun and creativity,” said Anthony Wilkie Jr., Senior Training, Promotions, and Development Officer at CDF.

Parents and guardians have much to look forward to in YSAP 2025. The four-week program will continue to deliver a rich, hands-on creative experience with an even greater focus on mentorship, performance, cultural education, and an exciting final production that showcases all participants' talents.

According to Mr. Wilkie Jr., “We want participants to expect a fun and creative environment. a place where they can express themselves, learn new things, meet new people, build new relationships, and be immersed in the arts and culture of Saint Lucia. Additionally, providing a safe space is always important, not only in terms of creativity but also physically, and we aim to address all those aspects. We don't want it to feel like school.”

The Youth Summer Arts Platform will be held at two locations: Patricia D. James Secondary School in Castries (Northern district) and Bean Field Secondary School in Vieux Fort (Southern district), from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on weekdays.

CDF hopes that over 200 children will be meaningfully engaged over the four weeks in multiple artistic disciplines and art forms. The final week will culminate in a public theatrical production celebrating Saint Lucia's heritage and culture.
