Speaking on the initiative, Managing Director of the Saint Lucia Cruise Port, Lancelot Arnold, revealed that GPH will award four fully-funded undergraduate scholarships every year for the next 24 years.
“At GPH, our tagline is ‘investing in people,’” Arnold said. “You will see that we are committed to that, not just to our stakeholders, but also to developing the youth of Saint Lucia,” he said.
The scholarships will cover full tuition for undergraduate degrees at any university of the student’s choosing, provided the institution is located in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, or within the University of the West Indies (UWI) system.
Arnold emphasised the competitive nature of the selection process, praising the calibre of applicants:
“To all of the students who reached out, we wish to thank you for having the confidence in us and submitting your applications,” he said. “It was very competitive. The youth of Saint Lucia are truly, truly intelligent. The applications that we got, lots of straight-A students. I want to encourage that.”
The 24-year duration of the scholarship programme highlights GPH’s commitment to investing in Saint Lucia’s future through education and empowerment.
