n July 31st, the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) and Devry University signed a groundbreaking agreement designed to expand higher education opportunities for Saint Lucian students through tuition discounts, scholarships, and access to advanced academic programs.

SALCC Board of Governors Chair Cletus Springer described the signing as the culmination of months of dialogue on articulation arrangements between the two institutions.

Today really is a build-up on these discussions. Those of you who were here for the presentation made by my friend from Devry this morning would be excited by not just the clarity of the presentation but also the vast scope of opportunities for Saint Lucian students,” he said.

Springer stressed that the college views itself as a launching pad rather than a final destination in the educational journey.

The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College does not see itself as the end all and be all in the education of Saint Lucian students. We see ourselves as a bridge to future learning, and we want to encourage our students to see education as a bridge to career development.”

The agreement also provides a 50 percent tuition discount and scholarships for SALCC students continuing their education at Devry.

Highlighting the role of technology in the partnership, Springer acknowledged that while SALCC offers associate and bachelor’s degree programs with strong alignment to Devry’s offerings, there is room for growth in emerging fields.

On the technology side, we do acknowledge that we have some work to do on the incorporation of AI techniques and technologies in our delivery of teaching,” he said. “These are emerging technologies that not just faculty have to come to grips with, but also our administrators and our students.”
