On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, officers intercepted a suspicious incoming package from the United States. The shipment, falsely declared as food items, concealed 80 rectangular bricks of suspected cannabis resin (hashish), each stamped “Made in California.” The drugs, weighing 8.02 kilograms in total, carry an estimated street value of EC $320,800. The contraband was seized, documented, and secured as exhibits.
Following the discovery, investigators moved swiftly. On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, a General Post Office employee was arrested in connection with the shipment. Two days later, on Friday, August 8, a search warrant was executed in Millet, leading to the seizure of electronics believed to be linked to the case. The suspect was taken into custody and interviewed.
Authorities have confirmed that charges will be laid for Importation of Controlled Drugs under the Drug (Prevention of Misuse) Act, Fraudulent Evasion under Section 84 (2) Schedule 3 – Part 2 Paragraph 5, and Goods Improperly Imported under the Customs Act, Section 32 (1) (b), (d) & (f).
Law enforcement officials have hailed the bust as a prime example of effective inter-agency collaboration, crediting timely intelligence-sharing and rapid action for dismantling what they believe to be part of a wider drug trafficking network.
The investigation remains active, with police not ruling out further arrests.
