Tommy Descartes: “Allen Don’t Need To Be An Economist”

Wednesday, Jul 30

"S

omeone challenged me and said, where is Allen Chastanet’s degree? I said when Allen has Titus in his cabinet and he has Tommy in his cabinet, Allen don’t need to be an economist; he have enough economic brains in the United Workers’ Party,” exclaimed UWP Candidate for Castries South, Tommy Descartes.

Descartes delivered a fiery debut on the political platform during a public meeting in Babonneau, voicing his full support for party leader Allen Chastanet and newly endorsed Babonneau candidate Titus Preville.

In his address, Descartes wasted no time in taking aim at the incumbent Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) administration, particularly on matters of economic policy and leadership competence.

Addressing critics of Chastanet’s academic credentials, Descartes responded with confidence: “I will defend my political leader,” he declared.

Turning his attention to Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, Descartes questioned the prime minister’s ability to manage the economy, using Pierre’s own words as a rhetorical pivot.

The Prime Minister said he is not an economist. So what is there to compare? I can’t compare if he’s not an economist. And then he says, ‘I’m not an economist, but I care.’ Well, Mr. Prime Minister, you can be a caring economist. You can care and still be an economist. And that is who you have in me. That is who you have in Allen Chastanet. That is who you have in Titus Preville. We are a caring political organisation.”
