Grande Riviere Wellness Centre Break-In Prompts Government Security Measures

Wednesday, Jul 16

A

spate of recent break-ins in the Grande Riviere community, including at the Grande Riviere Wellness Centre, has left residents alarmed and concerned for their safety.

The incidents have drawn sharp attention to the vulnerability of critical public health facilities, prompting calls for urgent government action.

Health Minister Moses “Musa” Jn Baptiste has confirmed that the Ministry of Health is actively responding to the situation.

Speaking to reporters, the Minister described the break-ins as troubling and assured the public that both immediate and long-term measures are being implemented to enhance security at wellness centres across the island.

I am aware of this situation. We are putting measures in place to beef up security, not only in terms of human security, but also cameras and other devices that will help the workers at the health centre.”

The Health Minister acknowledged that this is not an isolated incident and that similar intrusions have occurred at other wellness centres around Saint Lucia. As a result, the Ministry has begun a phased approach to assessing and fortifying facilities.

One by one or two by two, we are putting in measures to ensure our staff and clients feel more secure,” he explained.

In addition to installing surveillance technology and other protective tools, the government is calling on communities to play a more active role in safeguarding public health infrastructure.

He continued: “We should really be working as communities to protect our wellness centres. This is where we go for our health checks and to see our doctors. We should do all that we can to protect them.”

Despite the troubling nature of these incidents, the Minister remains optimistic that both government and community-led efforts can restore a sense of safety and trust in these vital healthcare spaces.
