The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) launched an investigation on Saturday, May 31, 2025, after receiving a report from Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sharon Belmar-George regarding unauthorised medical activity on the island.
The following day, on Sunday, June 1, Dr. Subhashdas Sathiyadas was detained at the George F.L. Charles Airport while attempting to leave the country. The arrest, made with assistance from the Immigration Department, marked a key development in efforts to curb illegal medical practices.
After further investigation, Dr. Sathiyadas was formally charged on Tuesday, June 3, with Practising Medicine Without a Valid License. He appeared before the First District Court and was granted bail in the sum of EC$20,000, subject to additional court-imposed conditions.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to upholding public health and safety by ensuring that only qualified and legally registered professionals provide medical services.
