T

he search for missing American tourist Travis Andrew Wyant has ended in heartbreak, as Saint Lucia police confirmed the discovery of a body believed to be the 37-year-old from Grayson, Georgia.

Wyant was last seen on the evening of Sunday, July 6, after leaving his hotel room in the north of the island. When he failed to board his scheduled flight the following day, concern grew rapidly, prompting a joint search effort by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), his family, and officials from the U.S. Embassy.

On the morning of Tuesday, July 8, a body matching Wyant’s description was recovered from the waters off Rodney Bay. According to Superintendent Stephen Victorin, who heads the Northern Division, officers responded to the scene and discovered the body floating in the water near the area where Wyant had last been seen.

Superintendent Victorin notes that until the findings of the post mortem suggests otherwise, foul play is not being considered.

“The body matches the description of the missing individual, Travis Andrew Wyant, an American national,” Superintendent Victorin confirmed. “The body has been retrieved from the sea and a postmortem is scheduled for 3 p.m. today to assist investigators in determining what might have occurred.”

The discovery has sent ripples of sorrow through both the local community and Wyant’s family, who had traveled to Saint Lucia in hopes of finding him safe. The U.S. Embassy remains engaged with Saint Lucian authorities as investigations continue.

Police have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances of Wyant’s disappearance and death, pending the results of the postmortem examination.
