Tuesday, Jun 17

N

igerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to visit Saint Lucia from June 28 to July 4, in what is being described as a historic opportunity to strengthen ties between Africa and the Caribbean.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre during a pre-Cabinet press briefing on Monday.

The visit will include both official state engagements and private leisure activities, with a major diplomatic highlight being a formal engagement between President Tinubu and regional leaders.

As Chairman of the OECS Authority, I believe that the visit of the President of Nigeria represents a unique and historic opportunity to deepen the bonds between Africa and the Caribbean,” Prime Minister Pierre stated.

He noted the significance of the cultural and historical ties between the Caribbean and Africa, especially Nigeria, as the foundation for broader cooperation.

As descendants of a shared heritage, the peoples of our region trace deep links to the African continent, particularly Nigeria,” Pierre said. “These longstanding cultural and historical connections compel us to continue nurturing and expanding our partnerships with Africa in ways that are meaningful, strategic, and sustainable.”

Pierre has extended invitations to all Heads of Government from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to join in the official leg of the Nigerian President’s visit. The aim is to foster formal dialogue and explore avenues for cooperation in key areas, including economic development, education, infrastructure, and diplomatic exchange.
