ith meteorologists predicting an active 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season featuring 19 named storms, the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) says Saint Lucia is prepared to respond

NEMO’s Director, Kernisha Jeffrey-Isembert, announced the organisation’s state of readiness following comprehensive reviews of its emergency infrastructure and systems.

NEMO has conducted an assessment of all its critical infrastructure and assets ahead of the hurricane season. The early warning systems have been assessed and tested to ensure functionality during any event,” said Jeffrey-Isembert.

District satellite warehouses, which serve as logistical hubs for emergency relief, were also inspected to confirm their capacity to respond quickly to affected communities. “We visited and assessed each of the satellite warehouses to ensure they are in a state of readiness to facilitate the residents they serve,” she added.

As part of the country’s preparedness push, NEMO received vital support from international donor agencies. These partners, Jeffrey-Isembert noted, played a critical role in strengthening the country’s response capacity.

The donor agency, apart from investing in our telecommunications, provided support with all the training programs, as well as donations of hygiene kits, children’s dignity kits, and adult dignity kits,” she said.

As Saint Lucia braces for a potentially intense hurricane season, NEMO continues to encourage public vigilance and personal preparedness while assuring citizens that national systems are in place and ready to respond.
